We're expanding! And we need everyone's help to make our dreams come true so please have a look & get involved...
At Broken Souls Rescue we never put a happy healthy animal to sleep who still has a quality and spirit for life. This might mean that over a course of 12 months we rescue less animals than other rescues, because we put a larger amount of our funding into more complicated and chronic veterinary treatments.
We never put an animal to sleep simply because it has not been adopted. Some animals remain with our foster families for months or even years at a time and some become "Life Residents".
Most of our animals come from county pounds, wardens, other rescues networking and urgent private SOS calls. We mainly rescue adult and senior pets who are no longer wanted. Occasionally we rescue a pregnant animal or receive litters of young animals surrendered due to a member of the public being overwhelmed or unable to cope.
All our animals (where appropriate) are adopted: micro-chipped, treated for both fleas and worms, up to date with their vaccinations and neutered. Occasionally due to medical reasons or age, we choose not to neuter certain animals. It is written in our contracts any puppy or kitten adopted by us must be neutered within 6 months.
We regularly keep up to date with the progress of all our adopted animals via email, telephone and social media. We stand by our animals for life and whether a problem occurs 1 week, 2 months or 10 years down the line, we will take in our animals again.
We keep up to date records of all our animals coming and leaving the rescue including their location of rescue, adoption, chip number and other details. These details are for the rescue use only and are not shared with any third parties without prior permission.
In the case of an animal showing signs of unrehabilitable aggression or dangerous behaviour where all veterinary routes have been expired, we operate on a 3 strike rule within the rescue staff in our attempts to rehabilitate and rehome an animal before having to unfortunately turn to euthanasia. However, dogs who are known to have bitten cannot be rehomed through Broken Souls Rescue.
We collaborate with and receive support from the following organisations:
PetPlan Insurance - Insures Broken souls Rescue, Gives all our rescues 1 month FREE insurance and we receive 10% of any insurance policies taken up by our adopters.
Companion Care Veterinary Group - Our Fantastic and amazing local Companion Care branch in Coventry are the most accomadating team we have worked with. Always able to find time for an appointment for us, flexible with our often tardiness, welcoming at reception to us an our animals. They also offer us as a rescue a 20% discount on our bills and a reasonable credit account.
Support Adoption For Pets - The PetsAtHome Charity connects branches to local rescues such as ours. We are lucky to be partnering with Coventry Gallagher Retail Park and Hinckley Road where we can advertise animals for adoption, events, hold collections and sometimes receive FREE pallets of damaged stock. We also have the eligibility to apply for their small annual grants.
PoundsforPoundies - Fantastic organisation alerting and networking rescues and pound pullers as well as raising and distributing transport and neutering funds for each dog we pull from deathrow. So supportive and always there if we need back up later on.
Harvest Hill Boarding Kennels - in our most desperate times unable to place a dog in foster, Harvest Hill can usually find a space for one of our dogs in their kennels and are the most loving family environment giving each dog leash work, field run and social time as well as play time and cuddle time. They support our dogs who stay with them as much as we do.
Debbie Leonard Canine (& Equine) Therapies, Massage and Reiki - Debbie is an old friend and veterinary nurse who is also a qualified equine and canine reiki massage therapist who comes to work with our more severe and shut down cases at a discounted rate. Her patient and calm manner really works wonders and we have seen huge differences from session 1. She is available for private sessions on 07714 662362 at £25 per hour.
Wonky Pet Rescue, B.A.R.K.S, People4PetsUK, Cathy Holding (Searching for Sofas), Leanne Mcwade & Holly Maitland (poundpullers).

Mel Reardan has been around animals ever since she can remember and found a particular passion for horses as early as 4 years old. After completeing several courses at Moreton Morrell Agricultural College and then a further 2 years at Nottingham Trent Uni (Brackenhurst Agricultural College) Mel decided she really did prefer the hands on mucky jobs and went back to looking for work in rehabilitation.
She started Broken Souls Rescue out of her own back pocket as a way to service the community and fulfil her love of animals whilst dealing with her own on-going mental, emotional and physical health problems.
A dedicated animal advocate, a friendly ear and a talented trainer.

SMURFY - This boy has been waiting almost 1 year in rescue for a home!
We operate as a non-profit CLG organisation which means there are no profits, no benefits, no shares and NO WAGES paid to anyone from director to kennel cleaner. All our proceeds go to our rescue animals!
We rescue pets from vets, council pounds and private emergency calls from the general public about non dangerous pets facing euthanasia simply due to a lack of shelter space.
We are a volunteer run community project, are originally funded by The Princes Trust and run solely on donations from the public, proceeds from training sessions and adoption fees.
Our rescues stay in our foster homes with volunteers and we are insured by PetPlan Sanctuary and use Companioncare Veterinary Group. Our dog aggressive rescues stay in private boarding kennels. We rehome across the UK but we do home check every household and keep in touch for the entirety of the animals life.
We offer dog training and rehabilitation one to one sessions; from puppy obedience to general behaviour to complex rehabilitation. These sessions take place where ever the problem is; home, work, the car, the park etc.
